According to CBS Sportsline, the Pittsburgh Penguins are in the midst of ongoing contract discussions with defensemen Sergei Gonchar and Kris Letang.
The report indicates that Letang, 22, is seeking a four-year contract worth $4 million per year, while Gonchar, 35, is willing to take a paycut to remain in Pittsburgh.
Letang is scheduled to become a restricted free agent July 1, 2010. Gonchar, meanwhile, will become an unrestricted free agent at the same time.
While Letang’s demands seem a bit high, Penguins management remains optimistic that a deal will be reached with both players, though no timetable has been given.
